Problems, Galore

UPDATE: My fear came true. It is a fungus and the nursery person gave me a fungus spray. It's probably too late. We'll try anyway. I looked at some other bushes that would work but it will take a few years for them to reach the size to hide the boat. The bushes that would work now are too expensive and I need too many of them. Oh well.

I'm afraid we are losing our Red Tip Photinias. We noticed last week that the bushes seemed to be dropping leaves. We didn't think a lot of it until we got home Sunday night from Virginia. It appeared that over the weekend the bushes lost a lot more leaves.

These bushes serve a very important purpose. They hide the boat. Previously, the bushes were so thick there was no way you could see what was lurking behind them. Now, you can see the boat.

The bushes definitely have a fungus. After doing some research I believe they have entomosporium leaf spot. I'm taking a leaf to a nursery this morning for some help. From what I've read, once it starts there probably isn't much we can do. With these bushes, it's all about prevention. That, we didn't do.

It took four years to get these bushes this size. The thought of starting over just makes me sick.

We'll see what the nursery people tell me this morning. I guess having to look at a boat for a few years will be okay. I have no idea what we will replace them with. Definitely not the same, although, these bushes have been perfect.

If it would help I am sure there is a good hiding place for the boat in Tega Cay for awhile.

Oh my gosh, Betsy. Your blog looks wonderful - and what makes it look so good are the pix of your family and the future inlaws. Congratulations to Jess. What a wonderful weekend that must have been. Hoping that the fungus can be taken care of without losing the bushes. I haven't been here in about a week and so am just catching up - and enjoying every minute of it.
Blessings,
Sue
