More 2-Mama Short Stories

If you didn't read my earlier post....I'm celebrating 2-Mama's March 11th birthday all week. Brent and Shane, I hope you are reading the stories about your 2-Mama. She trained your Nana to be the grandmother that she is today.

What Is Your Favorite 2-Mama Story?

Chris Courson (great grandson of 2-Mama) - "Gotta be the drive back from your house with Nana and Tomama. I was 14 or 15 and Nana pulled over at some exit on I40 and let me drive on the interstate. Soon as I took the wheel, I looked back in the rear view mirror and saw Tomamma buckling up. Nana also bought me a weight bench for my bday on this trip and some dumb trucker ran us (thank god Nana was driving) off the interstate as he merged right into us. I miss her dearly."

Peggy Carey (2-Mama's daughter and Nana to Brent, Josh, Chris, Shane, Matt, William and Patrick) - "2-Mama did not drink alcohol and none of her children did (in front of her.) But her sister, Aunt Maurine, enjoyed her wine. In fact, she made it. One Christmas, she had her siblings over to eat and served them a glass of wine telling Audley (2-Mama) that she made it from the grapes from her grape vine. This really impressed 2-Mama and she was telling me about the wine that Maurine made and served.

Sancy was in high school at the time and remarked, "Wow, that's who I got my drinking problem from, my grandmother." Mother was so insulted and said, "It's not like that you buy in a liquor store. It didn't have any alcohol in it." I remarked, "Mother it was all right that you drank it we were just surprised as it does have alcohol in it." To this 2-Mama replied, "No, it doesn't. I got the recipe and it does not call for a bit of alcohol."

2-Mama used to come to Dermott and alter Sancy and Betsy's clothes, letting the hems either up or down as the styles changed often. She made their dance costumes when they were in elementary school and when the great grandchildren came along, I remember her making Brent and Shane shorts and long pants.

She loved to perform and on her 95th birthday, she entertained her family and the nurses at the Pine Bluff Hospital reciting a reading that she had learned in high school.
