Police Catch 80 Year Old's Sunday School Ladies - 2-mama story

This is rather long, but a good one. (Provided by Peggy Carey, known as Mother, Nana, and 2-mama's daughter)

2-Mama's Sunday School class all met at the church to ride in the church van to Memphis to see the "Living Christmas Tree" program at the Bellview Baptist Church. All in the class were 80 plus. 2-Mama rode to the church with her neighbor, Mignon Henley. They arrived back in Dumas after the long trip to Memphis at 2 a.m. Two friends, Mrs. French and Mrs. Allison, left the church behind Mignon and 2-mama.

Mrs. Allison said, "Will you look at Mignon, she is weaving all over the road. We better follow them home to make sure they make it as she can't drive in the daytime, much less at night." Before Mrs. Allison could get behind them, a policeman pulled out behind them as, the police station is across the street from the church. Mignon noticed the flashing lights behind her and said, "I wonder who he might be after." 2-Mama said, "It's not us. We have not done anything wrong."

The police car drove right behind them with flashing light the 5 blocks to the highway, turned the siren on at the highway waking people up along the street. One lady looked out and told her husband that there's a car going about 20 mph with a police car behind it with lights flashing and the siren going and then another car behind the police car. (That was Mrs. Allison and Mrs. French, curious, I suppose.)

This kept up for five more blocks when Mignon turned in on 2-Mama's street which was a dead end street. 2-Mama lived in the last house on the street. When the police saw that they were entering a dead end street with a car in front and a car in back of him, he thought, "I'm getting hemmed in by some drunks," so he called for a back-up.

Mignon stops at 2-Mama's house and the police goes to her window and asks to see her drivers' license. Mignon said, "You don't need to see my drivers' license. I have not done anything wrong." The policeman said, "Yes Ma'am, you were weaving all over the streets." Mignon answered, "I was not and you quit harassing me."

By this time, the back-up had arrived and talked to Mrs. Allison and Mrs. French. He came up to the other policeman and said, "Let's leave" while laughing.

Well 2-Mama's neighbor saw the flashing lights in the middle of the night and thought it was an ambulance, so she calls the hospital to see if 2-mama had been admitted.

A few days later Jack saw Mignon in the grocery store and asked her if she needed the police to escort her home. She slung her purse at him and his shoulder was sore for a week. Jack said that he could imagine the next morning at the coffee shop as the police back-up ragged the other policeman about trying to stop the 80 plus Sunday school ladies.
