Gary and I just got home from a great week with family in Eufaula, Oklahoma. We met Brent and his family at the cabin on the 4th. Gary's birthday was the 3rd and Bennett, Anna Claire and Sutton had made Gary an awesome birthday card.
Bennett holding the birthday card he helped make for Granddad.
A very proud Anna Claire with the card.
Everyone in the Orr family has to wear the traditional Birthday Hat on their birthday. Anna Claire, Bennett and Sutton made the birthday cake. Thank you Jessica!
After cake we decided to go to Lake Eufaula for a boat ride. The weather was beautiful to be riding out on the lake.
And, just a little bit sunny!
How sunny was it? It was so sunny that as Sutton was "driving" the boat he couldn't even open his eyes!
Bennett, Sutton and Jessica. Sutton hates wearing that life jacket!
As we were riding Bennett said he wanted to ski. He wanted to last summer but he couldn't swim good enough. Brent and Jessica told him after he took swimming lessons, he could. He took swimming lessons in India so it's time to let him ski. I really hate to write this but I never thought he would be able to.
We got close to shore where Gary could stand up. He stayed in the water with Bennett. He is making sure the skis are on tight. Bennett kept saying they were too tight but Gary explained that they are supposed to be tight.
Now he is getting instruction on how to hold the rope. Jessica is sitting toward the back of the boat holding on to the other end of the rope. If she sees Bennett start to fall and he doesn't let go of his rope then she will let go of hers. This gets very complicated trying to teach a four year old how to ski.
Brent gives the boat some gas and he is up on the FIRST try! Unbelievable! I don't think any of us thought he would get up the first time so we were all unprepared. I'm holding Sutton because Brent is driving and Jessica is holding on to the other end of the rope. I have Sutton in one arm and my camera in the other. It was very hard to get a picture. Totally awesome!
Now, Anna Claire wants to learn how. Bennett has NO FEAR. Anna Claire does so I wasn't sure how this would go.
Gary was in the water with Anna Claire giving her instructions.
I don't have pictures of Anna Claire skiing because Bennett stayed in the back of the boat next to Jessica and he was right in front of my camera. Anna Claire did get up but Bennett was right in front of me. He was yelling instructions to Anna Claire the entire time. He is the expert now on skiing! I don't think Anna Claire enjoyed the skiing that much. When she fell water got up her nose. She didn't like that at all!
All that was just on the Fourth of July! The next day we went to the lake again. Brent and Jessica finally got to ski. They both ski very good! I'm very impressed. They both look like pros. I don't know how they manage when it's just their family. Honestly, it takes 3 or 4 adults to take care of the kids in the boat. Sutton is one on one. You better watch Bennett or he will be who knows where at the blink of an eye. He doesn't like wearing his life jacket so that worries me a little.
Everyone just playing around and having fun.
And, then this is what happens at the end of the day. Bennett is sound asleep sitting straight up in the boat!
This is Sutton's favorite person. Wherever you see Sutton Granddad isn't far away. They are true buddies. I'm still working on winning him over.
Anna Claire and Bennett toasting marshmallows.
And, then it was time for fireworks. Granddad had brought sparklers, a chicken, an army tank, smoke bombs, strobe lights, snakes, etc.
We had a great time. This morning everyone got ready to go home.
Sutton was playing rough. He kept climbing all over the couch and people.
Now, there's trouble. He has learned how to climb on top of the couch.
Bennett holding the birthday card he helped make for Granddad.
Even Sutton helped make the card. He crawled all over it with red paint on his knees and hands.

I think at this point he is starting to get a little nervous. Gary kept giving last minute instructions about bending your knees.
He stayed up until he got tired. He never crashed. He just let go of the rope.
Anna Claire seems a little unsure and she needed just a little more confidence.

Sutton was so happy in this picture. He got to take off his life jacket and now he can finally move.
