Spring Break at Angel Fire, New Mexico March 2014

Once Gary and I were told that Brent and Anna Claire would be going to India Spring Break our mind started going. We hated for the boys to be left out. Bennett has been wanting to go snow skiing for the longest. After talking it over with Brent and Jessica and got their approval, we all decided that Angel Fire would be the best place to start. It's a small ski slope in New Mexico and is family oriented. It's not too crowded and would be a good place to learn. My boys have been their several times. Gary and I are not very good in making detailed plans before we leave on trips. We kinda like to plan as we go; as a result, we missed our opportunity on inviting Jessica to go. We really wanted her to go also but by the time we realized we had  not invited her, it was too late.

We headed out early one morning and drove all day.

Betsy and Bennett at the entrance to Angel Fire.
Bennett kept telling us he did NOT need to go to ski school. Brent kept telling him he was going. All the way to Angel Fire Bennett would ask if he could only do it half a day. I kept saying "We'll see how it goes."
Once Ski School started I have a feeling Bennett realized it did need it all day. The Ski School instructors are awesome. They are so encouraging. Even though the class looks large there was one instructor for every 3 kids. Bennett is in the black jet with the red horizontal stripe.

 Bennett was a fast learner.

On the day of Ski School (it lasted from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM) Gary and I would take turns going and watching. One of us was always there. Adults had to stand behind a fence. Bennett knew where we would stand and he would keep a watchful eye on us.
After lunch it was time to tackle the mountain. Here is Bennett's first run down the mountain.

He is loving it!

Now, day two and Bennett and Gary get to go skiing all day together. Here is Bennett on top of a mountain.

You should hear the stories this old Granddad was telling. His knees hurt so bad once he and Bennett were on a lift and Gary couldn't get off when he needed to. Then, he dropped his skiis. Then, he was so slow Bennett would go on and ski down the mountain and then have to wait on his Granddad to catch up.

Day three. No problems waking this boy up. He woke up smiling ready to go. Granddad fixed a big breakfast.
I think Granddad is still tired from the day before.
Sutton did not like the cold and snow. All he wanted to do was stay in the condo and play "little guys." That's what we did. Three full days. I figured this was his vacation too and if that is what he wanted to do....well, that's what we would do. Bennett is playing with him before it's time for the slopes.

Goodbye snow skiiers! Have a GREAT day!
This is our condo. It is on the slope. Walking distance to the entrance, thank goodness.
The front of the condo.
I begged (made) Sutton get out once. I felt like he needed to get out of the condo and he did not want to at all.

We stopped at a toy store and he played with the trains for a little while.

Time to play with Sutton. I believe this day Sutton never got out of his pajamas.

 The drive home was beautiful.
 Some tv watching.

Gary and I are so blessed that Brent and Jessica let us take the kids on special trips. We are so thankful for our blessings. We know there will be a day that they will not want to go on trips with us or we are not able to take them. Until then, we will count our blessings for these memories that we will have a lifetime.
