The "Green Zone" meant that I could drive right through a light
Wearing camouflage meant you were going hunting
Deployment was not in my vocabulary
Sadr City sounded like a nice retreat
Sunni and Shi'te were for other people to worry about
I didn't lose my breath if there was a knock on my door after 6:00 pm
I didn't look at call waiting to see if the numbers started with 999
I slept all night
I didn't know the Postmasters by name and they didn't know me by name
I didn't know you could pack a Christmas tree in a small flat rate box
I didn't know the significance of a small flat rate box
I never referred to GNC protein bars as cookie bars
I never looked for cars with "Pray for My Soldier" on the bumper and then pray for the soldier
I never prayed like I pray today.
