My nephew, Matt Courson (www.mattcourson.org), was the luncheon speaker today at the Arkansas Farm Bureau Annual Officers & Leaders Conference. You can read the write up in the paper at http://www.nwanews.com/nwat/news/67411/ We were told prior to his presentation that this was the largest attendance for a luncheon that they had ever had. Close to 600 people were in attendance. Matt's topic was visualizing what you want and then do it. It is not enough to visualize what you want in the future, but you must plan and take action to make it happen. Matt was given a one percent chance to ever walk again. He was told there would never be movement in his legs or toes. For Matt Courson, a one percent chance meant that he had a one percent chance to walk again. That was enough motivation for him. Today, he can move his toes voluntarily and he can also stand up for very short periods of time. A one percent chance, that's all you need. Matt visualizes what he wants and then he does what he has to do to make it happen. My boys say I exaggerate. Well, I'm telling you, this is true....there wasn't a dry eye in the ballroom. I was crying. I started thinking that I was probably embarrasing William, a soon to be 10th grader. I glanced at William. HE WAS CRYING! It was the video. Just too much for me to watch. When Matt was through speaking, he received a standing ovation that lasted a good 2 - 3 minutes. Matt's father, Johnny, as well as myself, William, Nana and Papa Jack were there. Sancy, Matt's mother, does not listen to his presentations. It is just too much for her and she has to relive that day all over again. Honestly, I don't know if I can hear it again either. Matt is an exceptional speaker but it is just too emotional to hear him talk about that day.
