Moving In Day to My New Office at Peabody Hall, University of Arkansas

After 18 months of working out of a makeshift office at home I finally get to move back in my "old" but "new now" building. Peabody Hall is one of the oldest buildings on campus. When the faculty and staff moved out it didn't even have an elevator. My office was on the bottom floor then! Now, it is the corner office on the very top floor and I love it. The view is of Maple Drive and the university with all her beautiful old trees.

Today was the first day of moving the makeshift office at home back to the real office on campus. Thanks to Gary we got most of it in one trip. I took a load first and Gary stayed home until I called him to tell him what furniture to bring. I wasn't sure what furniture would go in this office. He brought the two black leather chairs that were in my old office. The ugly blue and white chairs that were bought for all the faculty would not work for me. Ugly with a capital U.

Tonight I will go in the attic and see what else I can bring from home. There is a lot of space in this office and I'm not quite sure what to do with it. I am just as excited about clearing out some things at home as I am having an office to work out of now.

Today (Monday, August 8, 2011). I got all the boxes unpacked. I picked up my keys at Facilities Management and my office key doesn't work. I'll have to get a different one tomorrow. I also picked up my parking sticker. I ordered it at the beginning of the summer so that was a quick errand.

After Gary helped me move in we had lunch at a new Mexican restaurant. Yes, I got the grilled chicken salad and it was good!

I'll post more pictures tomorrow.

Well, tomorrow is here and everything is moved in but that's about it. I took a stab at decorating but it's just not working. I'm not pleased with much of anything so this will just be a work in progress. Faculty come back to campus August 17th so today was really my last day to move in. I don't plan on coming to campus again until maybe next Tuesday.

These are the ugliest bookshelves. An interior decorator for the University picked out the furniture, bookshelves and all. Pam would have done better. I need help with the top of the bookshelves, and, I know, I need some books!

Thank you, Gary, for driving to campus again and helping me hang the painting and diplomas!
