I sure thought I was on The Amazing Race Tuesday. Here's what happened:
Tuesday was the first day of classes. I am teaching 3 online classes so I was at home working on the computer and the Internet keeps going out. Around 1:00 p.m. it would not come back on. The Cox Communication server was down.
Jill, William's mother, called me and asked what I was doing. I replied "Well, things are not so good. It's the first day of classes and my Internet is down." That is like the teacher not showing up for the first day of classes. Jill replied "Well, we are having problems also."
William, a freshman in college at the University of Arkansas, had one important event Tuesday night related to his fraternity and then another one Wednesday night. He had to wear a suit. Not optional and not optional of not attending. Jill tried a few other resources to get him a suit that fits but nothing worked. She called back a few minutes later after not being able to arrange him a suit and said "Well, I just don't know anything else we can do but meet halfway." I had told her earlier that I would be glad to meet her halfway to get the suit.
So, at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday we both started driving toward each other. One hour and 40 minutes later we met at Exit 37, Love's, somewhere between Ozark and Clarksville. The suit was handed over to me and I high tailed it to the University of Arkansas to pass it off to Katie, William's girlfriend, who would then pass it to William.
It's a wonder how I did not get a speeding ticket. I knew if he had a dinner event it would be around 5:30 pm or so. When I got to campus and a block away I called Katie and when she saw my car driving in front of her sorority house she ran out to me and I practically threw the suit bag to her. I don't think my car even came to a complete stop! She then went running with that suit who knows where!
The result: He got the suit and I think he made it on time to his event!
