Preparing for India

Gary and I got most of our shots this morning. I still have a prescription for malaria to get filled. We pick it up in the morning. The prescription for doxycycline we pick up in a week and start taking two days before we leave. The tetanus we still have to get but we will get that shot at the local health clinic. The countdown begins.

After shots and out to eat at Jose's we spent some time on India shopping. Gary bought a couple of pair of lightweight pants. I bought one pair. I think I have enough capri's to last me a couple of weeks. We will not be wearing shorts in the heat of the summer! I also bought 3 packages (20 in all) of toilet seat covers! After I bought those I remembered Anna Claire going to the toilet and she had to squat. It was only a hole in the ground. So, maybe I wasted my money on toilet seat covers. I did buy some mosquito spray with DEET since everything I read said to be sure it has DEET in it.

We are also shopping around for a backpack for Gary. We know the one we want but no one has it. Gary will have to do some shopping online today.

Dr. Rouse is an international travel doctor and he was very informative. He has been to India and he gave us a lot of good advice. He was recommended by a friend and I am so glad we met with him. He went out of his way printing material for us and telling us exactly which shots we needed. We will have to go back to him in six months to finish the Hepatitis A shot. By the way, I faint when I get shots. Since Gary was with me he told Dr. Rouse my history of fainting. Dr. Rouse had me to drink a large glass of water before the shot. Research was conducted on 15 year old girls. The researchers found that most girls do not eat breakfast or drink fluids before they go to the doctor. Their body is dehydrated and after a shot they faint. If you drink a large glass of water your chances of fainting decrease.

Not only did I not faint, but I did not get sick at my stomach afterwards. That's very good advice! Either the water or giving me the shots while I was laying down worked. I'm not sure which. Usually the nurse just has me to sit on the chair and then when I get up to go check out, I'm out on the floor!

Glad to hear you are almost ready. I think I'm almost as excited as you are about your trip. Can't wait to hear all about it.
HUGS,
