Right after meeting Brent and the family on March 11th (Sunday) at 11:00 a.m. we decided to go out to eat. The first thing you have to do is get a rickshaw. They are supposed to be metered where you can't be ripped off but I saw first-hand how again, there are very few enforced rules.
Brent, Sutton and Gary outside our motel getting in a rickshaw. I rode with Jessica, Anna Claire and Bennett.
Most of these pictures are just what you normally see on your way to a restaurant. I was taking them while I was in the rickshaw.
This view is India. Shops look like this. Instead of going to the Dollar Store, Walmart, Grocery Store you just walk on the street and find the type of stand you need, such as fruit stand, egg stand, etc. We have had to go to something similar to this to buy water.
This is the restaurant we went to. The Great Punjab. Indians eat lunch much later than we do so even though we were here at noon about the only other people in the restaurant were foreigners.
I don't know what this is but everyone seemed to love it but me. I have not been able to eat the Indian food. Brent asked for this appetizer to be "mild" and I took one bite and immediately had to drink a glass of water. I think Brent is part Indian.
Bennett had to take out hunting coloring book with him to the restaurant. Christmas Shane and Jess gave Bennett a hunting coloring book. Well, that has been the only coloring book he will color out of. You can't go to Walmart and buy him anything else. He simply will not even open it. Jessica got the web address from the coloring book Bennett had and she emailed me to ask me to contact the company and try to get Bennett some more. I brought him back about five more hunting coloring books and also some Go Hunting cards from that same company.
Brent and Anna Claire leaving the restaurant and getting a rickshaw. This was an experience. I was totally creeped out. There was an elderly beggar lady all dressed in Indian clothes and using a cane. She acted like she couldn't speak and she kept touching our arms and squeezing Sutton's cheeks. She was begging for money. I wouldn't look at her. Finally, Jessica said "Brent, give her some money." Brent gave her some money so she left us and walked away. As soon as Brent got in the rickshaw she came running back, leaned in the rickshaw with her face practically touching mine, and yelling at the top of her lungs something I'm sure was bad to Brent. She didnt' think he gave her enough money. I was squeezing my purse so bad and trying to play out in my head what I would do if she tried to grab it.
Where some people live.
