SHOPPING IN OLD CITY, PUNE, INDIA

We hired a driver from the hotel to take all of us shopping in old city today. I wanted to buy some scarves and Jessica knew of a good place.

A lot of the pictures below are just some pictures that we took as we were walking the streets shopping.

This stand is right next to a temple. You buy your offerings here and then take them into the temple to give to the priest. Gary, Brent and I went in the temple. We walked through a metal detector, which I now think that probably none of the metal detectors really work, and then they checked my purse. As we entered the temple probably 20 Hindu's were sitting on the floor praying and the smell of incense was very strong. You could stop and get the red smudge on your forehead to show that you have been to the temple today. We did not, of course. The people were worshiping an elephant.

We are in the old city. This part of the city is not near as nice as where we are staying. We are staying on the outskirts of the city. People are walking the sidewalks but just as many are on the street walking also.

Jessica took me to a very nice scarf shop. Literally thousands line the wall in little shelves. You point to the one you want to see and the worker will pull out a hundred for you to choose from. Brent and the worker in this picture spent a few minutes arguing over money and then they compromised. As I was checking out there was a sign next to where you check out that says "No Bargaining." That is hilarious because that is the only way to do business in India.

Anna Claire wanted some pretty play clothes. This guy is showing Anna Claire some dresses.

This is one dress she bought. She bought another one that is very pretty and pink.

Bennett was sad because Sissy got to buy some play clothes. Granddad said "Come on, Bennett, we will find something for you."

He got a very cool Batman outfit!

This is Bennett in the outfit. I took this picture after we got back to the apartment. He couldn't wait to put on the outfit.

Back to the scarf shop. These women were doing something with all the saree's in the back of the shop. They are on a mat. One of the ladies came up to Sutton and got him out of his stroller and put him on the mat to play with him.
