We moved to this house 11 years ago. During that time I have desperately needed a home office. One of the perks of being tenured is you can work from home most of the time. But...you need a place for your files and computer. I've been trying to use the bedroom but it just doesn't work anymore.
One morning I saw on the Internet that Furniture Emporium in Pocola, Oklahoma was having a "Buy one piece of furniture at full price, get second price half off." The sale was only for January 1st. That happened to be the day Gary and I were going to Norman, Oklahoma to keep the kids for a week. Pocola is right on the path. I mentioned to Gary that we should stop and just look. This isn't like him but for some reason he said "Okay."
I found exactly what I wanted. The room I am using was the piano room. I had to move the piano out and Anna Claire was just the person who could use it and treasure it. The room is small so not just anything would look "right." I found a plain and simple desk, two file cabinets (I need four) and two bookcases. Perfect.
I didn't realize how big the bookcases would be. I had intended to put a sewing/embroidery desk on this wall. That will not happen. One bookcase and a paper shredded took up this wall.

The other bookcase is holding my personal books, family pictures, knitting books and exercise supplies. The reading seat is actually a toy box. I covered some cushions to try to make it not so obvious. Gary's Dad made the toy box when when Brent was born (1978). The sheepskin rug I bought in Australia around 1997.
Not very pretty but perfect for me. One large desk with file cabinets and printers on each side. The file cabinets are designed where you can put them under the desk but I needed something to hold the printers. The lamp was made by a sculpture artist in New Orleans but it was bought locally. Doesn't really provide the light I need but it's pretty. The chair was the one I had as Associate Dean and it fits my body perfect. I could live on it. When I told the Dean I wanted to go back to faculty I told him I "must" take my chair. I'm sure he thought I was crazy but I know the importance of a good chair.
Now, will I be more productive? Well, I have updated my blog (I was two months late), submitted my paperwork for Greece, found decent airline tickets, and booked some sightseeing trips while there. Would I have done all that if I didn't have my own office...yes, but it wouldn't have been as fun. Now, I have my "woman" cave and I'm not leaving it.

I'd love a "woman cave" but no space here. ENJOY it
