END OF SUMMER

It's the end of summer for me. I started back to work on Tuesday. Brent, Jessica, Anna Claire and Bennett came yesterday. Jessica was not feeling well...stomach flu. I felt so sorry for Anna Claire because she just wanted to snuggle with her mommy and mommy felt so bad. When I tried to take Bennett to bed last night he just kept reaching out to Jessica. He wanted her instead of me so bad. I'm so glad she is feeling a lot better today.

What did we do? Well, we went swimming. Obviously no pictures there. It was just me with them today and with two kids in a pool...well, if I had taken pictures you should have committed me. Too dangerous to do anything but watch two children who can't swim. They did great. I had rules and Anna Claire made sure Bennett followed them. Once, Bennett was throwing all the toys in the pool; something Anna Claire always did at that age. Anna Claire reacted with "It just makes me so angry when he does that." I showed her the skimmer and explained how it was okay; all toys end up in the skimmer. We opened the skimmer and sure enough, there was a plastic cup in there.

Swinging

I was in the bedroom making the bed. Cartoons were on and Bennett just grabbed a pillow off the computer chair and put it on the floor and laid his head on it to watch cartoons. He looked so funny. I asked "Bennett, what are you doing?" He mumbled something and just smiled at me.

The kids started out finger painting, changed to a brush, and eventually Bennett changed to washable markers. He did get a little paint on his face but it came off.

Drinking juice
The desks Anna Claire and Bennett are sitting on were Brent and Shane's. I can't tell you how handy they are now. I cursed those desks for years because they are a pain to store. However, for some reason, I kept them. They are wonderful for eating, crafts...just about everything. Bennett loves being able to do exactly what Anna Claire does and the desks allow him to do just that. In this picture I had just told them they could have some juice if they sat on the desks because the juice was really tropical punch. I really didn't want spots of red on my carpet. Bennett ran to his desk and Anna Claire promptly went to her's. It's funny, Anna Claire always sits on the one you see her in and Bennett is always in the one you see him on. They are identical desks. No difference at all. But, they seem to have already marked their territory.

The best time of all was at the Spirit Night last night at the local high school football field. No pictures again. I took the camera but forgot the memory card! We got there at 7:00 p.m. It was over at 8:30 p.m. and Anna Claire and Bennett did not want to leave. Anna Claire was saying "But I don't want to go." and Bennett was just running off.

The football team ran out onto the field from a train with smoke coming out of the smoke stack and the train horn blaring. The band was playing and everyone was going crazy. Bennett and Anna Claire were in awe. It wasn't a real train but I think Anna Claire and Bennett thought it was.

As the football players were introduced they threw a football in the crowd. Since Gary is an administrator we were able to sit on a bench right on the track. Bennett went wild. Of course he got a football (we eventually gave it back to the little kid who caught it!) and played football with another administrator's son all night. Anna Claire danced with the pom pom squad and waved at all the football players. Once I asked "Anna Claire, who are you waving at?" She giggled, put her hands over her mouth, smiling and said "The football payers." I said "Anna Claire, I'm gonna tell your Daddy." She responded "I waved at the cheereaders too." Yes, she did. She and Bennett both ran on the track for over an hour. As soon as we got in the car to go home neither said a word the entire drive home. They were spaced out, half asleep.

Tomorrow we are going to the lake boat riding. Hopefully, I'll remember my memory card.
